Week 4_Reflection on Websites for Reading and Writing Skills and Technology-enhanced Lesson Plan
The lesson on "writing a technology-enhanced lesson plan" provided a new perspective on lesson plan preparation. Technology is increasingly influential in all areas of life, including education. However, formally incorporating "technology" into lesson plans, as we did this week, was a novel experience for me.
Are you familiar with the structure of our typical lesson plans? Here’s the one I usually follow, which I believe many in our class use as well. Notice that "technology" is only listed under "materials" and not explicitly mentioned.
Now, look at the revised lesson plan structure I created based on our teacher’s suggestion for a "technology-enhanced lesson plan." This structure highlights the importance of technology in lesson design, not just as a material.
In this new approach, "technology" is explicitly listed as a key element, rather than just a support tool. This change is positive and logical.
In my view, technology greatly enhances teaching effectiveness. Recognizing its importance and selecting the right technologies from the planning stage can improve both teaching and learning. Technology is no longer just a support tool; it can stimulate students' thinking, improve concentration, create interest in learning, and facilitate knowledge exchange.
Technology can undoubtedly support classroom learning. Additionally, my research shows that technology can assist teachers in preparing lesson plans. By expanding its application, we can enhance efficiency at various stages of the teaching process. Below are some tools I've discovered and would like to share with the class.
1. Planboard
Planboard simplifies the process of writing and organizing lesson plans. It allows teachers to input their schedules and attach standards to lessons. You can also attach files and resources directly to each lesson plan. Planboard makes it easy to view the entire week at a glance and adjust lessons as needed.
2. Common Curriculum
Common Curriculum is a planning tool that helps teachers organize lessons aligned to curriculum standards. It offers customizable templates, a collaborative platform for team planning, and the ability to share plans with administrators or students. Teachers can also track their progress throughout the year against standards and goals.
3. Google for Education
Google Docs and Google Sheets can be powerful tools for lesson planning. They provide basic, flexible formats for creating lesson plans that can be easily shared and collaborated on with colleagues. Google Calendar can also be integrated to schedule and plan lessons effectively across the academic year.
4. Microsoft OneNote
OneNote can serve as a digital notebook for lesson planning. It allows for the organization of plans into tabs and pages, embedding of multimedia content, and collaboration with other educators. Its flexibility makes it a handy tool for teachers who like to integrate various content types into their plans.
5. Trello
Trello uses a card-based layout that can be excellent for organizing lesson plans and related tasks. Each card can represent a lesson, where you can add details, checklists, deadlines, attachments, and comments. This is particularly useful for project-based learning environments.
6. Lesson Plan Templates in Office 365 or Google Workspace
Both Office 365 and Google Workspace offer a variety of lesson plan templates that can be used to design detailed lesson plans. These templates provide a structured format that can be customized according to different teaching needs.
7. Evernote
Evernote is a note-taking app that can be used for lesson planning. You can create separate notebooks for different subjects or classes and keep all relevant materials and notes organized. Evernote also supports multimedia notes, which can be useful for integrating videos, images, or audio directly into your plans.
8. Chalk
Chalk provides a suite of planning and analytics tools that help schools create and connect curriculum, instruction, and assessment. You can plan your curriculum and lessons directly on the platform and get insights into the coverage of standards and the progression of your lessons over time.
9. Canva for Education
Canva can be used to create visually appealing lesson plans and educational materials. It offers a range of templates and design elements that can make the documentation of lesson plans more engaging and easier to visualize.
10. Schoology
While primarily a Learning Management System (LMS), Schoology offers robust tools for lesson planning within its platform. Educators can create and store plans, assign them directly to students, and integrate assessments all in one place.
Using these tools can not only help in organizing and enhancing the quality of your lesson plans but also save time and improve collaboration among teaching staff.
